Graduating in 2010 from James Madison University with a degree in English and a Creative Writing and Print Journalism concentration, Janna left her hometown of Richmond, Virginia and settled in New York City. She immediately broke into the marketing industry as an Editor for a boutique digital marketing agency, BomserPayan, and soon after, began taking on clients of her own. From Facebook to Twitter and Wordpress, Janna maintained the social media accounts for Massage Envy and European Wax Center franchises across the country. It was at this boutique agency that she honed her PR skills and learned more about social media marketing, but her next career endeavor pushed her further into the budding industry.
Using what she learned about digital marketing at BomserPayan, Janna took the job as Social Media Director for a Alliance Family Practice, in Petersburg, VA. Though working remotely, Janna built the web presence from the ground up, including all social media channels and created original content for their website. Under her leadership, Alliance Family Practice's social media team grew from a team of one to a team of three, and together they fostered relationships with local businesses through cross-promotion, ran a successful Healthy Living Blog, and worked closely with sites such as LivingSocial and Groupon to promote program deals and specials.
With full confidence in both her social and digital marketing and leadership skills, Janna took the position as the Social Media Strategist for the respected Girl Scouts of the USA in New York City. Here, she ran the social media for one of the largest non-profit organizations in the world as a one-woman show before bringing on a teammate. Together, the team developed and ran national campaigns, increased the organization's engagement on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, and created content and social messaging for partnerships with DELL, Dove, Nickelodeon, AT&T, and Google's Made with Code, to name a few. Janna also created content and messaging for Ban Bossy, a campaign created in partnership with Sheryl Sandberg's Lean In Foundation.
Janna's accomplishments at Girl Scouts of the USA led to greater responsibility within the organization, and she became the liaison between the Fund Development department and the Social Media team, presenting extensive social media plans for all funded partnerships. The plans included social media messaging for both Facebook and Twitter, original blog posts, graphic design assets, and comprehensive analytics reports. It was with the success of those projects that GSUSA's Fund Development department was able to secure future partnerships.
After two years in the position of Social Media Specialist and one year with a special focus on Corporate Relations, Janna got back to her Editing roots and accepted the position of Managing Editor for the Girl Scout Blog. In her role, Janna wrote and published blog posts that garnered more than 146k page views on the Girl Scout Blog and ran a nationally syndicated Black History Month blog series that garnered more than 8.4k page views.
Confident in her abilities and proud of her accomplishments throughout her career, Janna resigned from her position at Girl Scouts of the USA and pursued entrepreneurship, opening her own company and offering both social & digital media marketing consulting and editorial services.
